Firefox is an internet browser that offers an alternative to Internet Explorer. It's faster (especially important to all of us who still use dial-up!), a lot more secure, gives you the option of changing the look of the browser to suit your tastes (themes), and allows you to add small "extensions" that add functionality to your browser.

Themes For Firefox:
"Themes" are like free "clothes" for your Firefox browser. Hundreds of free themes are available, some of which we have shown at the right. They can change just a few things, such as the color of the buttons, or the appearance of the whole browser. We ended up sticking with the default design, but you will probably find a theme that you like (over 300 are availiable).

Extensions are small add-ons that can instantly add new features to Firefox, and there are thousands of free extensions available. We've listed some of our favorites here, most of these extensions are less than 50 KB in size and are a snap to install:

Download videos from Youtube, Google, etc (+60 other sites) so you can watch them whenever you want, instead of waiting for the video to download every time.
Stealthy Surf
Surf the web without leaving a trace on your local computer. It temporarily disables browsing history, address bar history, cookies, downloaded files history, disk cache, recently closed tabs list, many more. It can be turned on and off with a few clicks.
Google Preview
Shows a thumbnail picture of web sites in Google search results, so you don't have to actually visit the page to see what it looks like. Saves you some time.

We are always hearing about "security updates" for Internet Explorer, to patch up yet another security hole the folks at Microsoft have discovered. Firefox automatically comes with features to keep you safe while browsing, such as automatic warnings before visiting a known "scam" site, or sites that attempt to secretly download spyware into your computer. We also like the automatic pop up blocker.
